Rapid Decarbonization: We Can Do It!
Decarbonization, or curtailing the consumption of hydrocarbon fuels that emit CO2, is essential to the health and stability of the global environment. Scientists tell us that the Arctic Sea ice and Greenland ice sheets are melting much faster than anticipated and that serious feedback cycles are beginning. Other studies indicate that about 25% of the CO2 we emit will stay in the atmosphere for over 1,000 years and that we are dangerously close to runaway climate change. Clearly, urgent action is needed. This presentation discusses Colorado’s renewable energy resources and how we can, as a state, move to decarbonize very rapidly and thereby set an example for the rest of the country—and the world.
